About Us

House of Hercules is a religious group dedicated to the pursuit of inner peace through athletics, with the Greek God of Athletics, Hercules, as our divine leader.

Our Beliefs

  1. Hercules is a divine being who guides athletes.
  2. Inner peace and spiritual enlightenment can be achieved through pursuit of athletics (especially endurance sports) under the watch of Hercules.
  3. Self-improvement through athletics is sacred, and is more important than performance.
  4. Practicing athletics is best done in a community.
  5. All people are equal.

Membership

Members of the House of Hercules are known as Herculians.  We welcome everyone to join the House of Hercules.

We acknowledge that there are many religions in the world, and that different religions focus on different aspects of life.  If they wish, Herculians are welcome to also be members of other religions.

Practice

Herculians practice our faith through athletics.  We meet regularly to celebrate our faith through group practice, as well as celebrating on our own.  Group practice is not reserved to a particular day of the week, but rather is scheduled by each chapter to fit the needs of its membership.  Most chapters choose to practice at least once per week.

Group practices may be led by an officiant (also known as a coach), who will guide Herculians in their pursuit of athletics.  Group practices may also be run without a coach, where participating Herculians support each other in their pursuit of athletics.

These group practices serve as the religious services of the House of Hercules.

While practicing our faith, Herculians are encouraged to receive the sacrament of the Sweat of Hercules, through drinking from their personal water bottle.

COVID Safety

Herculians are encouraged to follow all local laws and practice their faith in a COVID safe manner.  This includes practicing outside in small groups, and maintaining appropriate distance.

In Ontario Canada (as of Apr 17, 2021), outdoor social gatherings are not permitted with people outside of your household.  However, religious services are permitted with up to 10 people with appropriate safety protocols.  We believe that this permits Herculians to observe their faith in small groups.
